Germicidal irradiation audit of Olev Pure BioAir system

Gelt International verify the germicidal activity of one copy of Olev's device against microorganisms

Gelt International, scientific consulting company, has checked, as external auditor, the performance of one copy of Olev’s germicidal devices, performing microbiological and chemical analysis.

Pure BioAir is an air treatment devices based on a UV-C emission source.

The scope of this project is to assess the germicidal activity of the device against microorganisms that differ from each other in terms of resistance to UV-C light itself, verifying the microbial percentage reduction exiting the copy of the device tested.

The test is performed following the prescriptions, as applicable, of the technical norm ISO 15714:2019 Method of evaluating the UV dose to airborne microorganisms transiting in-duct ultraviolet germicidal irradiation devices.

Results

Olev’s Pure BioAir device was tested with 3 different microorganisms:

  • Serratia marcescens (Gram-negative bacteria), as per microrganism with D90 <25 J/m2;
  • Bacillus subtilis (Gram-positive bacteria), as per microrganism with 25<D90<120 J/m2;
  • Cladosporium sphaerospermum (fungus), as per microrganism with D90 > 120 J/m2.

The ultraviolet dose needed to inactivate 90% of test microorganisms is colored in purple in the histogram. Theoretically, it is possible to point out a list of microorganisms which, on the basis of literature data, can be inactivated by the same system, including coronavirus*.

The graph below show some of these microorganism (data are taken from ISO 15714:2019 – Annex C).

The result presented in this page are referred to only the copy of the device tested as received.

*The percentage efficacy on coronavirus is inferred basing on D90 dose tabulated in ISO 15714:2019 Annex C; the virus itself is not being tested.
